Founded by the Republic of Türkiye General Directorate of Foundations, Fatih Sultan Mehmet Vakıf University Faculty of Arts, Design, and Architecture has based its foundations and future ideals on the deep-rooted understanding of vakıf civilization. Our faculty was established with the aim of addressing both material and spiritual needs in the best possible way through a human-oriented approach.
The Departments of Architecture, Traditional Turkish Arts, Interior Architecture, Graphic Design, and Restoration And Conservation Of Cultural Assets at Fatih Sultan Mehmet Vakıf University have embraced the principle that the concept of design and conservation has progressed through an interdisciplinary process since their inception. They recognize the undeniable importance of this concept at every scale, from the object to the city, in contemporary conditions. Their educational approach began with this concept in mind.
The disciplines of Architecture and Interior Architecture involve the process of designing the living environment, considering the act of physically producing a structure and a human-oriented space in terms of vitality. Space design holds interdisciplinary and inter-scale significance because it exists within life and establishes a direct relationship with people. Our faculty addresses space and people with the understanding of vakıf civilization—a civilization filtered from the past and intended to be carried into the future using contemporary methods and understandings. It is our belief that creating livable spaces designed with such a view of civilization is achievable by educating students who are equipped with technical knowledge, possess creative problem-solving abilities, can act interdisciplinarily, and are researchers and producers. To achieve this goal, we offer minor and double major opportunities between departments within undergraduate education and are open to joint education programs through our ever-increasing international connections.
In addition to the rich faculty that benefits from the advantages of our foundations, the Departments of Traditional Turkish Arts and Graphic Design also provide lectures from ambitious artists, faculty members, and qualified experts from the industry. Young artists trained here will be well-versed in traditional art culture, aware of the rich historical heritage, and possess the knowledge, passion, and vision to build a bridge between the past and the future. They will contribute to society's understanding of art and aesthetics with their original and content-rich works. These departments aim to train academic staff needed by our country through their Master's Degree and Proficiency in Art programs and plan to secure a respected place among institutions providing Art and Design education.
Recognizing that cultural assets are the most important elements conveying and introducing the identity and values of past nations to the present day, conservation is understood as a strategic area. To understand the significant civilizations that existed in our country's historical geography, one only needs to look at the rich treasure trove of cultural assets we possess. It is an important cultural responsibility to preserve the originality of this inherited heritage and to pass it on to future generations through sustainable conservation approaches. This cultural responsibility mandates conservation and restoration efforts to protect, develop, and carry the common heritage of humanity into the future. The current situation in the sector, increasing needs, and potential necessitate sustainable vocational training planning in the field of cultural heritage conservation. For this purpose, the "Restoration And Conservation Of Cultural Assets" was established to contribute to the protection and restoration of our country's cultural assets by training qualified human resources.
With the spirit of vakıf civilization, our faculty aims to secure a unique place in art, design, and architecture education with members and graduates who know and embrace their own culture, who understand, assimilate, interpret, and carry cultural assets into the future, and who can also establish a presence on the international platform with their professional identities.
